LOVE THE PIANO
My aim is to inspire you to love the piano. Learning with me is a combination of mastering a new physical skill and pursuing a program of personal growth.
I design each lesson I offer according to my students’ abilities, and make the necessary changes once I become more familiar with their needs. Lessons contain a combination of formal and exploratory activities.
LEARN FOR ENJOYMENT
If you’re learning for enjoyment we can talk through a program of pieces that reflects your interests. When learning for enjoyment I aim to make sure you have a mix of pieces that are comfortable to play, along with one or two that stretch your capacities. This provides the ground for discussion of broader topics in aural studies and analysis to extend your understanding of the music you’re playing.
AIM HIGH: EXAMS
If you are thinking about going for piano exams, then there are a couple of things to consider. I have prepared students for examinations with ANZCA and AMEB, and my students do very well in their exams. This approach to piano lessons requires regular attention to aural and theory studies, and for these you can expect to be given regular assignments. In general I will not agree to enrol you for an exam until you have studied with me for a full year.
I PREFER IN-PERSON LESSONS
Online lessons are a little bit different to in-person lessons, but not dramatically so. There is more to-and-fro. Most people find online lessons are more focussed, with gains of autonomy and self-direction for students.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Lessons are priced on the length of your session, and billed in advance for batches of four lessons.
